The last few days have been life changing from seeing my first
iceberg to getting the chance to climb one that was trapped in a
bay we had to camp in.
The mileage we are having to do to reach the North West Passage
bring us across some of the most dangerous seas on our planet. Fog
has been our biggest enemy with the visibility reduced so much at
times that I can just make out the front of our RIB and it's on
20feet from where I sit!
I have been on edge for the last few days and really anxious
about the crossing we made yesterday.
St Johns Harbour to Panguntung brought us across the 60degree
latitude which meant we were officially entering the Arctic, we
stopped for a brief second to see what all the fuss was about and
had a fishermans friend boiled sweet to celebrate.
Panguntung was reached just as the sun set and the local a hotel
keeper greeted us with arms wide open and with great delight
announced that he had a French chef preparing dinner!
I did not have a the heart to tell him that a simple cup of tea
was the highest priority.
The food was superb so I was delighted as were the crew.
850miles to go until we reach Pond Inlet and my goal of making
the Future Capital Partner NorthWest Passage a reality, something
that has been part of my life for almost two years, is so close but
still so far.
