The RIB

Zodiac Hurricane - image 1

"SHOCKWAVE ARCTIC WOLF", our custom-fitted RIB

The Shockwave Zodiac Hurricane Mach11 is the RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) that Bear Grylls had dreamt of using for this ambitious project. In Bear's words: 'it is simply the ultimate in tough RIBs.'

Bear has teamed up with Shockwave-Zodiac in Canada to attempt this crossing in the 11m Hurricane. It is without doubt the toughest, most capable RIB in production. Super smooth ride, big, fast, dry, sure-footed, and safe.

Shockwave-Zodiac supply their RIBs to almost all the Special Forces around the world, and the Passage is a trip they had been wanting their RIB to do for years, but had never found the time to get the project together. The expedition is a great test-platform for the Zodiac Hurricane RIB, and thereafter Zodiac will be able to market it as proven in the Arctic Seas.

Due to the very specific characteristics of our trip (ice packs can be very bumpy!), the RIB was custom fitted with shock-absorbing console and seating, by Shockwave Seats and Shock Mitigation. It was also fitted with:

- Long range fuel tanks
- Shockwave Seats - Offshore Patrol Seat
(a full body support seat)
- Canvas covering
- Heaters
- Storage lockers
- Mercury engines (3 x 300hp)

and all the other kit and back up support the team will be needing!

Zodiac/Shockwave Mitigation and their teams will personally ensure that the full kit and the RIB are 100% right, tested and perfected before we begin. This is a major advantage and relief for us in terms of safety.
